A viral TikTok take has been making the rounds lately, claiming that if you haven't physically held the controller and played a video game yourself, your right to review it is completely discredited. Today, we are taking a sledgehammer to this elitist gatekeeping.
On the surface, it’s true—if you only watched a stream, you can’t accurately speak on input lag, frame rates, or the physical mechanics of a combat loop. But what about the rest of the game?
In a modern gaming landscape where high-budget titles are built like cinematic interactive movies, why are we pretending a viewer can't critique a script, analyze character development, or evaluate story pacing? If we can review audiobooks without turning physical pages, or streaming blockbusters without sitting in a movie theater, it’s time to admit this "no controller, no opinion" rule is a total double-standard. We break down the absolute necessity of reviewer transparency, why the gatekeepers are wrong, and how a story-focused review actually serves a massive, completely untapped niche of viewers who only consume games through streams.
Let’s stop arguing about how people consume art and start focusing on what actually matters.
Join the debate in the comments below: Is watching a game enough to critique its narrative, or do you side with the gatekeepers?

I just finished Final Fantasy VI for the very first time, and it completely shattered my expectations for a retro game. Moving straight from FF1 to this was pure whiplash. In this episode, I'm breaking down my review using my brand-new "Two Loves, One Hate" format—diving into why this game easily cracked my Top 5 of all time, why Celes Chere completely stole the show, and the one major party flaw that held it back from perfection.
Where does FF6 rank in your personal tier list? Let’s debate in the comments below!

As adults, leaders, and providers, our daily lives are completely bound by constraints. We manage teams, support families, stay within the lines, and carry the heavy weight of real-world consequences for every decision we make. That constant self-regulation is exhausting—and it’s a direct fast track to burnout.
In this episode of the bi-weekly gaming journal, we are tackling how to handle high stress and burnout by embracing the therapeutic power of total sandbox chaos. We’re breaking down why stepping into a game like Grand Theft Auto V isn’t about violence or mindless distraction—it’s an intentional pressure valve that lets us safely disconnect from the rigid rules of reality.
In this episode:
Breaking the Real-World Matrix: Why our brains crave mind-numbing nonsense and total freedom after a high-pressure week.
The Comfort of Zero Consequences: How causing absolute chaos in Los Santos satisfies a very human urge to push boundaries, without anyone getting hurt.
Escapism vs. Reality: Redefining the stigma around sandbox games—how purging stress on a digital screen actually makes us more patient, present, and grounded fathers, husbands, and professionals in real life.
Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your mental health after a demanding week is to step into a world where you are only limited by your imagination.
To all the high-performers running on fumes: What is your go-to game when you just need to shut your brain off and engage in total, consequence-free nonsense? Is it GTA, or something else entirely? Let’s talk in the comments below!

The internet is completely losing its mind over the music choice during the final battle in Supergirl, but the haters have it completely wrong. In this quick video, I break down why using a cover of Jimmy Eat World's "The Middle" was actually the perfect thematic choice for Kara Zor-El’s character arc and why that specific needle drop completely saved the vibe of the third act.
Did the music ruin the climax for you, or do you see the vision? Let’s debate in the comments below!

I literally just walked out of the theater, and we need to have a serious, unfiltered reality check about Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. While James Gunn's Superman did the heavy lifting of cleaning the slate and making us excited for a new universe, Supergirl completely stalls that momentum.
To be completely honest: this movie is not good. It’s not a total trainwreck, but it fails as a cinematic event. Instead of pushing the DCU forward, it feels like a high-budget, low-stakes, 40-minute-too-long filler TV episode.
In this full spoiler review, we are breaking down exactly what went wrong. First, we look at the staggering lack of creative imagination in recycling the exact same narrative engine from Superman back-to-back—poisoning and trying to save Krypto. I break down why this worked in Superman (because they actually built the emotional bond first) and why it fails completely here by reducing a beloved character to a cheap, predictable ticking-clock MacGuffin.
Next, we dive into the tonal identity crisis. This film tries to adapt Tom King's masterpiece—a gritty, heavy, emotionally dark space-western—into a safe, family-friendly PG-13 blockbuster. The result? A climax that feels entirely hollow, bloodless, and wrapped in corporate training wheels, featuring a completely pointless Lobo cameo that adds zero narrative value.
But it’s not all bad news. We have to talk about the absolute saving grace of this film: Milly Alcock. She is pitch-perfect casting. She effortlessly brings the charm, the anger, and the raw emotion of an isolated Kara Zor-El who is secretly desperate to be saved herself. Combined with some spectacular third-act action choreography, she keeps this movie from being a total disaster—even if the script completely did her a disservice.
Grab a drink, pull up a chair, and let's break down the good, the bad, and the flat-out boring elements of the DCU's latest entry.
What did you think of Supergirl? Did you find yourself checking your watch in the theater, or did Milly Alcock completely save the experience for you? Let’s debate in the comments below!

We are officially on the eve of the global theatrical release for Supergirl, and the stakes couldn't possibly be higher. While James Gunn's Superman did the heavy lifting of cleaning the slate, Supergirl is the actual, definitive litmus test for whether this new DCU is a sustainable cinematic universe—or a ticking clock.
In today's episode, we are cutting past the generic marketing hype and laying down a definitive countdown of the 3 major reasons to be concerned about this movie and what it means for the franchise moving forward.
First up, the narrow world-building trap. Why is the DCU pivoting immediately from its flagship alpha hero straight to his cousin who boasts the exact same power set and basic baseline of superheroism? We discuss how this creative choice risks making a vast comic book universe feel redundant and incredibly small right out of the gate.
Second, the illusion of director autonomy. We dive straight into recent behind-the-scenes leaks where director Craig Gillespie admitted that James Gunn gave him rigid, hyper-specific notes and overrode a key bar scene regarding how Krypto the Super-Dog should behave. If the head of the studio is already micromanaging minute character actions to protect personal branding, are we actually getting an independent filmmaker's vision, or a manufactured corporate product?
Finally, the omnipresent threat of the "James Gunn Flavor." We break down the ultimate danger of a creative monoculture. Tom King's original Supergirl run is an absolute masterpiece because it's a gritty, emotionally dark, heavy space-western about survival and grief. Are we about to see that raw heart completely smothered by cheap, wacky, Guardians of the Galaxy-lite comic tropes? We look at the chilling parallel to Thor: Love and Thunder and talk about why a shared universe needs a shared world—not a shared tone.
Let’s get into it.

Happy Father's Day! Today, we are stepping away from the standard news cycles to dive into a topic that hits incredibly close to home: the evolution of fatherhood in modern video games. Looking back at my own timeline—from playing games as a solo player in my twenties to sitting at the mic today as a dad—the way these narratives land completely changes once you have a child of your own.
In this Father's Day Special, we are breaking down a powerhouse trio of gaming’s defining fathers: Kratos (God of War), Nathan Drake (Uncharted 4), and Joel Miller (The Last of Us).
First, we unpack the legendary Norse saga of God of War. I share how loading up the 2018 game before I was a dad felt entirely different from experiencing Ragnarok with a son of my own. We break down that unforgettable insight from Mimir—reminding Kratos that if he doesn’t want his son to walk away, he needs to "walk with him a while"—and why true fatherhood means supporting your child's autonomy rather than forcing them down your own road.
Next, we look at Nathan Drake’s ultimate dilemma in Uncharted 4. Entering fatherhood later in life, I completely related to the fear of having to bury your old passions and identity for a quiet life. We talk about why the ending of Drake's story is so beautiful: it proves you don't have to sacrifice who you are to be a great dad, you just learn how to share the adventure with your kid.
Finally, we look at the ultimate protector, Joel Miller. We discuss the deep trauma of losing Sarah, how Ellie completely cracked his hardened shell, and why Joel is the ultimate proof that fatherhood is forged through action and sacrifice, not a DNA test.
Grab a drink, pull up a chair, and let's get into it.

Between the corporate grind, running a household, and the non-stop responsibilities of being a husband and a father, adult life demands that we are constantly "on." For a lot of us, there is a silent, heavy undercurrent of pressure that says I do not have the luxury of failing.
In this first installment of the bi-weekly gaming journal, I’m opening up about why forcing out time for video games isn't a waste of hours—it’s a vital boundary for my mental health. Today, we are breaking down the concept of low-stakes autonomy and control, and why stepping into a digital world where the rules are fair and the failures carry zero real-world consequences is the ultimate reset button for a busy man's brain.
To all the dads, providers, and professionals who feel like they are running on fumes: taking an hour for yourself to reclaim ownership of your time doesn't make you selfish. It recharges your battery so you can be a better, more present leader for the people who rely on you.
How often do you feel the need for a total reset in your daily life, and how do video games act as that safe outlet for you? Let's start the conversation in the comments below.

Is FF7 Fatigue Real? + Multiverse Clues in the Final Fantasy VII Revelation Trailer!
The final chapter is officially upon us. With the massive trailer drop for Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, Square Enix is pulling back the curtain on the endgame—but are they hiding the biggest plot twists right in plain sight?
In today’s episode, we are breaking down the reveal trailer frame-by-frame and diving into some major theories. Is the new FITS outfit/job customization system actually a clever visual disguise for alternate-reality versions of Cloud and Tifa? With Aerith conspicuously absent from the footage, is that final empty party slot actually reserved for Zack Fair to make a permanent crossover? We’re breaking down why evolving the narrative away from a strict beat-by-beat remake is the best decision Square Enix could have made.
Plus, we are diving straight into the community timeline. I review and react to the mixed, highly divided comment section from my recent TikTok video checking the temperature on "Final Fantasy VII Fatigue." With a 7-year gap from Remake to Revelation, has the decade-long development cycle exhausted the fanbase? And if a legendary franchise like FF7 is causing this much mixed fatigue, will Square Enix ever attempt a multi-game mega-remake model like this ever again?
